Konacik

The Business Center of Bodrum

We are in Konacik, which is bustling all year long with the residents of Bodrum.

Konacik is a business-friendly settlement located on the Turgutreis road, which runs through the heart of Bodrum. It is a town that is increasingly preferred and invested in by business owners due to its proximity to Bodrum center and convenient location on the main road that leads to other districts on the peninsula.

Konacik is a historical treasure as well. According to the famous historian Herodotus, the Ancient City of Pedesa within the borders of Konacik dates back to 4th and 5th centuries B.C. and was one of the most important trade centers of the region. The Pedesanians are remembered for their heroism as well as their resistance to the attacks of Persians and Alexander the Great. Pedasa ruins are one of the most interesting historical sites of the region.

According to legend, today's Konacik was founded in 1050 at Golbasi by three shepherds from Khorasan, but the settlement was relocated to Cirkan Village due to maritime transportation and security concerns.

Despite the fact that Konacik has begun to attract attention with its business centers on the main street and its regular structure, it lacks a touristic feature due to its distance from the sea and caters to the business sector mostly. Nonetheless, with numerous shopping malls and supermarkets, Konacik is still a popular daily destination for most Bodrum residents.

You can watch theater plays and concerts at the Herodot Cultural Center owned by the Bodrum Municipality, enjoy a book and coffee at the Zai Yasam Library, which is a private enterprise, or have a pleasant shopping experience at the Avenue Bodrum Shopping Mall.

Places to see:
Pedasa Ancient City and Archaeological Park
Pedasa is at Gokceler located 4 km north of Bodrum in the valley pass where the mountain ranges of the peninsula end. The Caria Region, which includes the city of Pedasa, is one of the richest regions in terms of ancient settlements, in the southwest corner of Anatolia where eastern and western cultures meet.

According to Homer, the Leleg people, who supported Troy alongside the Carians during the Trojan War, lived in the city of Pedasos in the south of Troy before being forced to relocate to the south and settle near Halicarnassus in the Caria Region.

Lelegs, who are mentioned in ancient documents alongside the Carians during and after the Trojan War, founded eight cities in the Caria Region, today's Bodrum Peninsula. Pedasa is one of the most important of these established cities. The most important information for the settlement of Pedasa comes from the historian Herodotus, who says, "The Pedasanian were living inland beyond Halicarnassus." Because Pedasa is the only city on Halicarnassus. An inscription discovered in the temple ruins in 2008 confirmed this theory.

Pedasa was one of six Leleg cities forced to migrate to Halicarnassus, the newly named capital of Caria, by Mausolos in the 4th century BC. Pedasa then continued to exist as a military fortress.

Pedasa is a hilltop city with an inner castle reinforced with towers and surrounded by fortifications. The ruins in the city are widely regarded as important evidence that the Pedasanians remained in their city for some time after the forced migration of Mausolos. The Acropolis is surrounded by walls in the settlement. Pedasa and its territory contain all of the elements that make up a typical Lelegian city, including the necropolis (cemetery), agricultural terraces, and farm houses.

Excavations and research conducted in Pedasa up to the present day have revealed remains and findings dating from the second millennium BC to the end of the Byzantine period (13th century AD). In 2021, remains discovered at Pedasa and its surrounding necropolises were displayed in the halls of the French and Italian towers in Bodrum Castle.

Visitors are welcome to explore Pedasa City and its surroundings. The ruins are easily accessible by car through Konacik.

Konacik Industrial Zone

Konacik Municipality, which has since become a neighborhood, made the wise decision years ago to relocate the industrial district to the city's inner core. Other private industrial facilities and service buildings were built here, forming a true industrial zone. In the industrial zone, which is built on a wide and convenient location, there are service units where you can get any type of repair work you require.

Things to do:

Zai Yasam Library

Zai Yasam Library, located at the intersection of Konacik and Bitez, enriches Bodrum life with exhibition halls, a permanent sculpture exhibition, and artistic events. You can enjoy delicious food and drinks in the Zai Yasam Library's restaurant, cafeteria, and bar areas, which are spread out over a large compound, and you can relax in the lush garden and sitting areas.

Herodotus Cultural Center

One of Bodrum's most important art and culture venues is named after the well-known historian Herodotus of Halicarnassus. The Herodotus Cultural Center, which is managed by the municipality of Bodrum, hosts a variety of art events throughout the year.

Along with the exhibition hall, which hosts painting and sculpture exhibitions at various times of the year, this center also hosts tourism materials and construction fairs. Mugla Metropolitan Municipal Orchestra also performs here. The Herodotus Cultural Center also hosts concerts and other events by the Bodrum Chamber Orchestra and other organizations and groups.

Herodotus Cultural Center, which has a 500-seat hall, a large foyer, a very large exhibition hall, and work areas, is also the workspace of local folk dances and dance groups.
