Blue Voyage is a term that is widely accepted to have been coined by the Fisherman of Halicarnassus, Azra Erhat, and Sabahattin Eyubolu, and is commonly used in tourism today. Azra Erhat's books of the same name, first published in 1957, then in a more comprehensive format in 1962 and 1979, are the source of the name.
The boat trips taken by these well-known humanist intellectuals in the 1950s in the spirit of discovery and peace became an alternative vacation concept. The Blue Voyage, which until the 1980s was only available to a select few who owned their own boat, eventually became a part of Turkey's growing tourism industry. The rapidly increasing number of boats on Turkey's coastline, as well as the reduction in boat rental prices to more affordable levels, have increased domestic and foreign tourists' interest in Blue Voyage.
